Chapter Fifteen: Questioning Numbers[edit | edit source]

Glimdrem and Ilsferu dine aboard the opulent Silver Willow in Berubondâ with the Contessa and Captain Sandorelê, savoring Edan wine and spicy pork sausage soup. Amid discussions of power dynamics and human politics, the Contessa reveals her late uncle's thwarted scheme to ignite regional war using addictive donu-honêsh herb, suspecting renewed machinations via Boboru's blockade of Lultûhol over pirate Red Skull. Offering a pouch of gems upfront for supplies, she seeks Trelelunin neutrality to breach the blockade for intel, promising vast riches regardless of outcome. Intrigued by her flawless Edan fluency and Solineus connection, Glimdrem agrees to consult captains, sensing profound enigmas—possibly Xanesu's soul in her—as the vine cryptically whispers "twenty-five," evoking ancient losses and twenty-four archangels.
