With Eliles and Ieru, he views distant allies: Solineus sailing Parapet Straits with Sîu toward Mulshahar; Rikis near Istinjoln with Edan and Wolverine, implying Gate-closing progress; Rinold scouting plains with Polus Broldun; Adinvan raiding Histê from Pôn. Panicking over inadvertently revealing Kinesee's underground location (searching for tomes with Alu, Izilfer), Ivin demands shift to Dareun's ghost at Istinjoln. Dareun mouths "Almost" desperately before a tentacled Shadow engulfs him, vanishing as Eliles screams—hinting the Celestial Gate nears closure or the Queen of Shadows' escape.
