WoG Chapter 42
Chapter Forty-Two: Dents and Holes[edit | edit source]
Ivin oversees the finalization of the Trade Treaty of the Rôemhîik Three, a complex agreement brokered by Morik to facilitate trade between the Silone, Helmveliners, and Helelindin without direct exchanges. As the Helelindin delegation departs, the Malstefnê launch a siege, hurling boulders and Wyvern’s Flash—a devastating white flame—from trebuchets against the Silone’s fortified wall. Initial thunderstick explosions deter sappers, but the fire’s corrosive effect weakens the stone, alarming Ivin and Morik as they discover brittle, crumbling sections. A lone rider delivers a Wyvern’s Flash strike to the western wall, shattering stone and signaling an imminent breach. Ivin prepares for a desperate defense, sending Kinesee and Puxele to safety while rallying warriors to the weakened flank. Amidst personal moments with Kinesee, their bond deepens, though memories of Meliu linger. By dawn, the Malstefnê inexplicably abandon their siege, leaving no trace of their army or engines, sparing the Silone from potential annihilation but leaving Ivin to grapple with relief, suspicion, and the enigmatic influence of the Face of Ulrikt.
