At the Ulminster Trade Forum, Konlul Nobûn escorts Poleen to meet Captain Soderun tû Galortêu, who suspects her of murdering Montêusarâ Serelê tû Moltôlboc and stealing indilus. Poleen, maintaining her contessa guise, weaves half-truths, claiming she bid on the roots with Sandorelê, fled Aprelêu after tû Moltôlboc’s death, and lacks the indilus, bound for Umdûwor. Galortêu, skeptical but lacking proof, departs under Magistrate Sunshî Kobsorotu’s oversight. Poleen, Teverish, and Nobûn suspect Yostul Bûdukî hides the indilus deal to protect trade and a rival “kingmaker gambit” against Kontzûl Juvilêus. Nobûn warns Galortêu’s recognition could endanger her, prompting Poleen to consider sabotaging his ship if needed, safeguarding her vengeance against Nedrich nâ Hilêômbrâ and Berjer Fendênus.
