On the Tenth of Livrotu, Poleen, posing as Contessa Polênu Juvilêus, arrives in Aprelêu aboard the Soaring Falcon, flying Mostul Ûbar’s banner. Sandorelê coaches her to impersonate a contessa to dock safely, despite her shaky Tôlk and lack of noble finesse. At the docks, Montêusarâ Velôshêu tû Modrilus, a Notoholis Aprelêu liaison, greets her, probing her presence. Poleen deflects, claiming a trivial venture, and escapes scrutiny. En route to the Rainbow and Swan inn, buckle boys ambush her, Âvorê, and Isidorus, seeking ransom. Poleen’s lethal prowess kills three, breaking a man’s neck, while Isidorus and Âvorê fend off others. Aprelê Guards intervene, but Poleen’s contessa act, backed by witnesses Belûsu, Felumar, and Meridil, invokes the Rule of Three, sparing them arrest. Escorted to the inn, Poleen hides her identity, her resolve to free Ezeldu and kill the Berjer unshaken.
