WoG Chapter 35
Chapter Thirty-Five: Island on Island edit
On Herald’s Watch, Eliles navigates escalating tensions as islanders, led by Artus and Seden, guard the garden against Skywatch priests, who refuse to labor (Ch. 23, 29). Reinus, cleared of Niktir’s murder but jailed at night for safety, joins the Salty Frog’s communal refuge (Ch. 29). A mysterious white-haired woman, resembling Fedenu of Ulmor, appears in the garden, using Elemental Life to kill weeds and revive potatoes. Denying she’s the Lord Priest’s Face or Fedenu, she hints at a timeless existence, likening herself to the Touched (Ch. 12, 23, 29) and suggesting the Face’s identity is knowable through understanding. Claiming a friend—likely Solineus—summoned her, she vanishes, leaving Eliles to connect her to the Tower of Fire’s eye and wing (Ch. 12, 30). Artus, witnessing her disappearance, speculates she’s a dragon, not a demon. As Eliles ponders the Touched’s riddles, smoke rises from the docks, revealing the Salty Frog ablaze. Using the Sliver of Star, Eliles extinguishes the fire by commanding flames to rise and disperse, saving nearby structures but leaving the tavern charred. Artus, suspecting arson by the Face, demands action, and Eliles, despite her aversion to killing, agrees the shapeshifter must die to end its divisive schemes, intensifying her resolve to unmask it amidst Skywatch’s growing hostility.
