Poleen, healing under a boulder awning near Vitolêô’s Sunset Cliffs, entrusts Âvorê with retrieving her cigar box, which he returns unopened. Restless after eleven days, she learns Captain Sandorelê’s Soaring Falcon has docked. Meeting Sandorelê aboard, Poleen negotiates passage to sell the box’s indilus root, striking a half-partner deal despite his flirtations. Sandorelê reveals Ezeldu’s extradition to Aprelêu, having delivered Poleen’s letter to her. He proposes selling the root to Nicôdî tû Dêidontâ, the Butcher of Hudêd, or the moral Serelê tû Moltôlboc, who’d pay less. Âvorê balks at tû Dêidontâ’s danger, but Poleen chooses Serelê for a safer, noble deal to free Ezeldu. She vows to kill the Berjer tê Aprelêu after, startling Sandorelê and Âvorê. With Isidorus toasting their venture, Poleen sets sail for Aprelêu, her resolve fueled by vengeance and redemption.
