Chapter Sixty: Fight of Flight

The Silone, 136 days into their migration, face pursuit by a thousand Malstefne cavalry from the Fourth Army after seizing the Dinsang Bridge, crossing into Tek Loenfarar territory. Ivin, Solineus, and the Fire Riders set fires to slow the enemy, but the cavalry vanishes, only to attack the caravan at the Destil River ford, killing many before Meliu and Sedut’s Dark powers and Silone resistance, led by Ivin and Solineus, repel them. Solineus kills the Malstefne commander, securing a costly victory. At a council, the clan-blood, diminished by losses (Remnar, Yosuf, Zorun dead), learn the Fourth Army, split to block the Ferminki Bridge, is three days behind. Eredin reports a defensible tributary, the Tarmujon, before the Gediswon River, prompting a plan to hold it with volunteers led by Roplin and Polus, allowing most Silone to cross the Gediswon. Solineus proposes riding to the Dragonspan Kingdomers for stonebreakers—explosive tools—to destroy the Ferminki Bridge, preventing a Tek flank, despite skepticism. Ivin, commanding the Tarmujon defense, sends Meliu with Eredin to protect the Gediswon crossing, leveraging her powers.
