Poleen
Introduction[edit source]
Poleen Juvukis is a young woman from the village of Nindi’vilu, who survived being hanged by assassins hired by the Notoholis Aprelêu (a powerful trade guild from the city of Aprelêu). Her relentless pursuit to free her mother, Ezeldu Juvukis, and to avenge her brother, Benê, promises to take her place places a young woman from an idyllic country village should never go. Marked by a fractured memory and a predatory instinct awakened in the face of death, Poleen navigates a perilous web of deception involving smuggled indilus roots and donu-laced cigars, her actions driven by a fierce loyalty to her family and a haunting quest to reclaim her lost identity.
History[edit source]
Poleen’s early life in Nindi’vilu is shrouded in the fog of her amnesia, known as a "Forgetting," which erased much of her past following a traumatic hanging orchestrated by the Notoholis Aprelêu. Raised by her mother, Ezeldu, an herbalist who ran Juvukis’ Bloom, a shop famed for its garden, Poleen grew up amidst the pastoral beauty of Nindi’vilu, playing at Castle Hill and savoring moonbiscuits from Norvilê’s Bakery. Her father, possibly a noble from Mostul Ûbar referred to as a count, remains a distant figure in her fragmented memories, leaving her heritage a point of speculation.
Personality[edit source]
Poleen’s personality is a paradox of innocence and ferocity. Her amnesia leaves her grappling with self-doubt, yet her determination to save her mother and uncover her past drives her forward. She exhibits a chilling ease with violence, dispatching foes with a predator’s instinct—snapping necks, gouging eyes, and wielding blades with lethal precision—yet is haunted by her lack of remorse, questioning her humanity. Her physical prowess, possibly enhanced by her mysterious resurrection, allows her to outrun and overpower trained men, while her riding skills, particularly sidesaddle, suggest a refined upbringing.
Physical Description[edit source]
Poleen is a striking figure, often described as possessing a beauty that belies her lethal capabilities. Her pale skin hints at her Gorô heritage, while her darker features suggest a possible Mostulê lineage, a half-blood identity that adds complexity to her social standing. In her early appearances, she is seen in tattered remnants of a dress, later adopting a man’s coat and, eventually, a practical dress suited for riding. Her calf-high leather boots are a constant, grounding her as she moves with a predator’s grace. Poleen carries herself with a blend of poise and menace, her eyes reflecting both vulnerability and a chilling resolve. Her physicality, evident in her ability to kill with precision and run with preternatural speed, suggests an unnatural resilience, possibly tied to her survival of death itself.
