Amid visions of Ezeldu and nightmarish creatures, Poleen kills a Korômonê assassin and pursues another, warned by Hovêen tû Sedlômu’s signal. Chasing the wounded assailant through Aprelêu’s streets, she encounters Gibelê dû Nindi-vilu, entrusting him with a map for the constable, redirecting her plan. In the undercity, Poleen and Hovêen confront a Wakened Dead, a gray-skinned woman with unnatural vitality, barely escaping after wounding it. Poleen, undeterred, sends Hovêen with a map to Âvorê and the Silk Devils to secure the donu-honêsh cache’s southern entrance, preparing for a fight or alliance.
