CMU Chapter 19
Chapter Nineteen: Drowning Shallows edit
Poleen Juvukis, tracking Ezeldu’s “olômorus dû Nettîn,” finds her at the Lobster Trap, condemned for Theft of Livelihood and Lordly Import. Nedrich nâ Hilêômbrâ oversees the execution, joined by Captain Galortêu. Isidorus, spotting Poleen, urges her to flee, revealing Ezeldu’s imminent death in the Trap, a flooded cave. Poleen, refusing to abandon her mother, plans to cut the cave’s bars or lift the grate, sending Isidorus for tools. Confronting nâ Hilêômbrâ, Poleen demands Ezeldu’s release, offering herself. He stabs both, declaring the first to die cleansed, the other eternally guilty. Guards drop them into the Trap’s dark waters. Poleen, wounded, pulls Ezeldu to a ledge, clinging to life as the grate seals them in. Above, nâ Hilêômbrâ taunts them, leaving them to decide who dies first, while Poleen’s resolve to save Ezeldu faces the cave’s deadly tide.
