Chapter Six: Soaring Laughter

Poleen Juvukis dreams of a past visit to Juvukis’ Bloom, witnessing her younger self and Ezeldu meeting Humeric tû Yulêz and an unnamed man offering indilus root, a deal Ezeldu rejects. Awakening in the Dew Flower Inn, guilt over Benê’s death haunts her as she waits for Gibelê, who’s delayed investigating Ezeldu’s arrest. Restless, Poleen spots Notoholis Aprelêu guards at the inn and flees to Snaking Lane, distracted by a fire-wielding performer. Nedrich nâ Hilêômbrâ confronts her, taunting her survival, but a crowd delays violence. Leading him to the Sunset Cliffs, Poleen faces Nedrich and his men, including Âvorê, who defends her as “Milôkêsku,” a chosen soul. As more Notoholis riders approach, Âvorê hurls Poleen into the Gulf of Tomulok. She survives the plunge, battered but clinging to rocks, vowing to endure as the tide shifts, her resolve unbroken.
