Chapter Nineteen: Hall of Glass[edit | edit source]

In Molikîn, Kinesee and Meliu, strained by silence, await their tour of the Latcu collection. Kinesee, irritated by Meliu’s immersion in the Codex of Sol, prompts a discussion about the Prophecy of the Twelfth Star, which Meliu reinterprets as predicting the rise of an “lîumôtar” (possibly a queen priest) on Tomarok’s peak, not a king priest, hinting at Ulrikt’s faked death and the prophecy’s deliberate mistranslation. Queen Nîsenî interrupts, leading them through Helmveline’s sculpted halls to a guarded chamber dazzling with colorful latcu stones, protected alongside half a coin retrieved by Solineus, coveted by the Black Waters cult. Nîsenî gifts Kinesee and Meliu latcu gems, revealing the stones’ aesthetic value could be overshadowed by their potential as war tools, like the latcu swords wielded by Solineus and Ivin. Kinesee, probing the stones’ volcanic origins, learns from Nîsenî that Solineus’s swords spoke the name Gers’voresh-kûmjotu-kî, a Wisewoman from the Cliffs of Knowledge, believed immortal and born in creation’s flames. Nîsenî, wary of the Dark Waters intercepting such knowledge, urges secrecy, instructing Kinesee to warn only Solineus and Ivin, and Meliu to confide only in trusted scholars. The revelation deepens the mystery of Tomarok and the cult’s motives, leaving Kinesee cautious of Nîsenî’s withheld knowledge and Meliu grappling with the prophecy’s implications, as their mission to secure Helmveline’s warriors gains a layer of ancient intrigue.
