Eliles joins Istinjoln’s priests at Ulrikt’s funeral, mourning Dareun amid a bleak Eve’s eve, noting all seven lord priests present, including Broldun’s, suggesting a pre-planned gathering. Sedut arrives, delivering the Sliver of Star, reviving Ulrikt from his sarcophagus. Ulrikt declares Dareun’s confession—blaming Choerkin—false, sundering him with the Sliver’s winds, proclaiming Holy War to summon the Sword of Sol against Choerkin. Eliles, enraged, summons feral flames, restrained by Dareun’s ghost calming her. As a sundered spirit, Dareun witnesses his execution, relieved Eliles relents, then meets Solineus and Lelishen. Solineus, seeing him, seeks aid to kill Ulrikt, and Dareun, bitter from betrayal, agrees to help protect Eliles, navigating his ghostly state amid Ulrikt’s war chant.
