Chapter Four: The Insiders edit

Eliles, a fire-wielding priestess who stayed behind on Herald’s Watch to protect it from Shadows of Man, observes the small community of survivors adapting to their isolated life on an island now devoid of night. Initially expecting despair, she’s surprised by the resilience of the roughly two dozen residents, who begin exploring and occupying themselves to cope with their losses. Feeling the group’s tendency to cling to insular cliques, Eliles, through Artus Choerkin, organizes a gathering at the Salty Frog tavern to foster unity. With Seden cooking and Jinbin offering humor and future ale, the meeting sees families like the Mangins, Wilu’s brood, and others cautiously agree to share resources and skills—fishing, milling, gardening, and scavenging—while Eliles proposes systematic searches for supplies and weekly meetings to build trust. Despite minor tensions over ownership, the group commits to collaboration, ending with a shared meal that symbolizes a tentative step toward a cohesive community, bolstered by the promise of Seden’s cooking and collective effort.
