Solineus, recovering in the fortified village of Yurhol, learns Ivin, now Warlord, is betrothed to Kinesee, prompting mixed emotions. Seeking to meet Morik’s king, Sînhôlar, to secure alliances, Solineus wagers that Kinesee will affirm his survival and eventual return, convincing Morik to arrange the meeting if he wins. Five days later, Solineus rides toward Molikîn, confident in Kinesee’s intuition.
