Eliles, a postulant with feral magic, walks with her master Dareun to his cell after her reckless trial display, earning a reprimand for risking exposure. Dareun proposes she adopt the “Traveling Wisdom,” a missionary journey across Kaludor, to escape Istinjoln after her priesthood vows on the Eve of Snows. Seeking fresh air, Eliles bribes monk Jinbin to exit the monastery, only to witness Lord Priest Dunkol of Fermiden Abbey arrive secretly with an inquisitor, greeted by High Priest Woxlin. Realizing the drills were a ruse to conceal this Broldun priest’s visit, Eliles hides but is caught by the inquisitor, who threatens her silence. Returning to her cell, she finds comfort in her feral flame, pondering her future freedom and the dangers of her secret.
