Chapter Eighty: A Ruined People edit

In the aftermath of a perilous journey, Solineus Mikjehemlut seeks refuge in the mountain city of Holvin Dô-ar, guided by his friend Morik’s counsel. Carrying a rub of Hîmr’s Coin but pursued by the Dark Waters cult who believe he possesses the true artifact, Solineus aims to lie low until Morik can spread word that the coin is safe with Sînhôlar the Ironwing. In Holvin Dô-ar, a city partially in ruins yet renowned for its neutral Sun Forge, Solineus meets Âemêsu, a seasoned smith from Molikîn, to whom he entrusts his need for a shield—one extraordinary enough to justify his presence at the Forge. As he navigates the city’s customs and the Forge’s strict neutrality, Solineus proposes the creation of a legendary Singing Shield, banking on the Ironwing’s treasury to cover its cost. Amid political intrigue, the weight of his past, and the purr of a stubborn cat named Tongs, Solineus settles in to await his shield and his next move westward toward the mysterious lands of the Ilû-Strono Plains and the Helebôm cities.
