ToP Chapter 67

From Sundering the Gods

Chapter Sixty-Seven: Stranger Eyes[edit | edit source]

Eliles, alone in Skywatch’s starry realm, reflects on her ongoing search for answers about a murdered boy and the island’s stagnant plants, while Jinbin and Artus study below. Temeru, the High Oracle, appears, discussing the stars’ elusive nature and Meris’ futile stargazing. When Eliles inquires about the boy’s murder, Temeru claims ignorance, but offers insight into the garden’s issue, suggesting the plants, overwhelmed by Life and Spirit from the Sliver’s Fire, are in stasis, unable to grow or die. Citing Fedenu of Ulmor’s grapevine analogy—pruning induces fruit by mimicking mortality—Temeru proposes reducing Life and Spirit to spur growth, prompting Eliles to consider canonic implications of eternal stasis in the Heavens and Hells. As Eliles processes this, another Temeru arrives, revealing the first as a spectral duplicate, possibly from another time, who vanishes. The real Temeru, unaware of the garden issue, denies such temporal overlaps, but confirms Fedenu lived two centuries ago, deepening the mystery. Eliles, recalling Meris’ talks with her “wiser self,” senses an unseen watcher, questioning her sanity or the stars’ reality.
