Chapter Seven: Flotsam Awakened[edit | edit source]

Poleen awakens battered on Vitolêô’s shore, her pain dulled, and encounters Lollutomu, a spectral woman claiming her a dead visitor to a cave of skulls. Poleen, denying death, flees the ghost’s grasp, guided by Âvorê’s distant shouts, and collapses back into her body. Âvorê frees her from the rocks, confirming Ezeldu’s imprisonment and Gibelê’s uncertain fate. Poleen reveals the cigar box’s indilus root, a fortune that could ruin the Notoholis Aprelêu’s trade, and plans to buy Ezeldu’s freedom. Âvorê, owing her three lives, suggests a noble buyer and warns of Vitolêô’s dangers. Poleen demands a smuggler’s ship, naming Captains Sandorelê and Galortêu, and vows to raise an army if gold fails. Sheltering under boulders, she grapples with pain and Humeric tû Yulêz’s role, her resolve hardened to defy the Notoholis’s schemes.
