The Face of Ulrikt—known here as the Wraith of Qwôhar—orchestrates a deadly deception in Notôlhof, capital of the Malstefnê Nation. Binôtu Kodûl, a scout delivering messages from Ôlisbenar, is burned alive with his party in a gatehouse trap, ordered by Captain Hûlm under vague directives. Hûlm, coerced by the Wraith posing as Fulmor, reveals Ôlisbenar’s command to Lady Serilu at The Singing Spire, who unwittingly discloses her connection to Lord Kervik. The Wraith, manipulating Kervik in the guise of Serilu, extracts royal schedules before killing him. At a council meeting, Kervik’s warnings about the Wraith are dismissed by King Trefifân, who later meets the Wraith in the Chamber of Muzod, where it assumes his form and forces him to write a false letter blaming Litrâ for murdering his family. The Wraith, having slain the royal family, manipulates Ôlisbenar, revealing its triumph in fulfilling his unintended orders to destabilize the Malstefnê. Offering Ôlisbenar the throne in exchange for leading a war against Litrâ, the Wraith ensures his compliance with threats and vanishes, leaving Ôlisbenar to grapple with his new role and the Wraith’s lingering menace, contemplating kingship over a vulnerable realm.
