Chapter Thirty-Three: One World Twice

Glimdrem awakens in the Tomb of the Touched, miraculously healed from a snake’s poison by Aneelu, a mysterious figure who shifts between skeletal and human forms. Joined by Inslok, Solineus, and Rinold, he navigates the pristine, time-defying tomb, marveling at its untouched state despite its swampy surroundings. The group confronts the Touched, a towering skeletal figure whose cryptic, theatrical banter frustrates their quest for answers. Inslok seeks wisdom about his forgotten past, but the Touched mocks him as "Almost," a near-great figure forever falling short, hinting at a history of servitude and unfulfilled potential. Meanwhile, in a surreal temporal shift, Solineus experiences a private conversation with the Touched’s flesh-and-blood form, learning of the Touched’s reverence for the Pantheon of Sol, his cryptic warnings about allies and enemies, and vague references to Eliles’ safety and a lady from Solineus’ dreams. The Touched also alludes to the Celestial Gate’s complexities and Inslok’s departure from the Eleris, but offers no clear answers. As the conversation with the skeletal Touched resumes, Inslok, provoked by the Touched’s games, declares he has learned enough, ominously warning Solineus that the Edan will fulfill their agreement, potentially forcing Solineus’ people to find a new home if the Volvrolan heeds his advice. The chapter ends with Solineus bewildered by Inslok’s cryptic threat and the Touched’s assurance that the Edan never break a vow, leaving the group grappling with the elusive truths of time, identity, and destiny within the tomb’s otherworldly confines.
