Chapter Sixty-Eight: A Casual Stroll[edit | edit source]

Ivin, accompanied by Kinesee and guarded by Maro and others, meets Morik of the Kingdomers in the Roemhien Pass to negotiate passage for the Silone through the Dragonspans. Kinesee, poised but resentful of their betrothal, softens when Morik reveals Solineus survived the Ferminki Bridge collapse, confirming her belief he’s alive and will return when needed, though he’s pursuing other plans. Ivin, relieved but frustrated, urges Solineus’ return to assume the warlord role. Morik grants passage and considers Ivin’s proposal for defensive walls in the Pass, contingent on delivering promised whiskey and further negotiations, warning of monstrous threats beyond the Dragonspans, unlike the human Malstefne. Ivin, reflecting on hidden monstrous natures, discovers three white dice alongside Tokodin’s black die in his pocket, all showing ones—a chilling four-eyed snake—evoking memories of betrayal and murder. The chapter concludes with a cryptic poem from the Tomes of the Touched, hinting at... Well, some believe this Tomes points to Solineus. But does it?

The following chapters were oriignally published as Solineus, Book 2.5 bu these chapters are now included in Trail of Pyres.
