Ivin and Sedut strategize at the Tarmujon tributary, a defensible choke point before the Gediswon River, planning to hold off three thousand Malstefne footmen and two hundred cavalry with tower shields, spearmen, archers, and Sedut’s artifact, aiming to delay the enemy while the Silone caravan reaches the Gediswon ford. Sedut’s vision reveals the Malstefne as an anvil to push the Silone toward a hammer at the Ferminki Bridge, but Ivin hopes Solineus’ mission will neutralize this threat. Meanwhile, Solineus, with Rinold, Puxele, and Mirkel Broldun, navigates the Dragonspan Mountains to secure stonebreakers from the Kingdomers to destroy the Ferminki Bridge, preventing a Malstefne flank. After tracking goat herds, they meet Morik, a Kingdomer herdsman, offering whiskey, gold, jewels, and friendship for stonebreakers. Morik, intrigued by Solineus’ Edan speech and wary of the Hundred Nations, agrees to trade, taking their goods and promising to return in two days, warning against storms that could ignite the volatile stonebreakers. The chapter blends tactical preparation and diplomatic risk, highlighting Ivin’s strategic command, Sedut’s lethal power, and Solineus’ bold negotiation as the Silone brace for a critical stand and a desperate bid to secure their escape.
