Chapter Fifty-Eight: Parlay Under Fire[edit | edit source]

Eliles hosts a meeting at Skywatch with three priests—Temeru, Saxone, and Pilorin—representing the holy adherents, aiming to bridge tensions with Herald’s Watch’s residents. The priests announce the lifting of restrictions, allowing Skywatch adherents to freely leave the stars, a decision spurred by the diminished threat of Taken, delighting Eliles but met with skepticism by Artus and Jinbin. During a walk, Eliles encounters a mysterious, white-haired oracle who claims long tenure in Skywatch and knowledge of a dead child Eliles found, probing about a great eye in the sky linked to the Sliver of Star’s fire. The oracle, evasive about Meris’ death and her own identity, vanishes when Saxone appears, leaving Eliles questioning her sanity or the world’s growing madness, haunted by memories of a Dark-corrupted priest. Determined to focus on practical matters, Eliles prioritizes fixing the garden, suppressing fears of her own mental unraveling.
