EoS Chapter 52

Chapter Fifty-Two: Promises

Kinesee and Alu hide in a chicken coop from Taken kin—Papa (Iku), Oleu, Dom, Medlin, and Ito—eating scavenged food as their settlement lies in ruins. Alu kills Dom with a spear when he finds them, sparking a desperate run to a dory, where Medlin and Ito drag it back until Solineus arrives, beheading Ito and freeing the boat. Using the Twins, he slays Oleu and Iku in their burning home, dispersing their Shadows with steel and fire, then rows the girls to safety, joined by Tengkur. After burning the Taken, he shares tales of the Steaming Lakes to ease their grief, linking up with a fishing boat bound for Herald’s Watch, fulfilling his promise to Iku to save his daughters and free his soul, though guilt lingers for those he couldn’t save.
