Solineus, armed with his newly forged Singing Shield, departs the Sun Forge in Holvin Dô-ar as a hired escort for a secretive caravan, bound for Klondihîk in the idyllic Kingdom of Barkûsh. The journey through the rugged Foundations takes him through mining hubs like Dôldên and fortified Gîgan, revealing the industrious underbelly of the region’s kingdoms. In Klondihîk, a vibrant city preparing for the Festival of the Righteous Dancer, Solineus delivers a rub of Hîmr’s Coin to the king via a guard, hoping to throw off any lingering pursuit by the Dark Waters. However, his stay is cut short when a drunken assailant and his companion attack him in his room, forcing Solineus to kill them and flee into the night after a third attacker’s missile nearly finds its mark. Hiding in a stable, he evades capture by city guards and, at dawn, slips through Klondihîk’s western gate under the guise of a traveler. Now on the Ilipsôu Road, Solineus faces an uncertain path as his map trails off into uncharted territory, leaving him to navigate the unknown lands westward—possibly toward Mulshuhar, a city of red-gold domes—while carrying the weight of his violent escape and the ever-present threat of pursuit.
