= Chapter Seventy-Nine: Dark Waters = Solineus, hungover from the Giant’s Helm revelry, learns Seblêsu remains in Faldan. Morik proposes a plan to outmaneuver her by using a hidden walking well near the abandoned Erenfol village, potentially leading to the Barren Mirror River, bypassing her ambush-prone route. After clearing thorny brambles, they enter the well’s cave, descending to a stream that joins the river, confirming its riven nature with a central pillar. Spotting Dark Waters’ boats, they realize Seblêsu’s group is downstream. Planning an ambush, they climb a ledge, but Seblêsu, aware of their position via the Waystone’s reciprocal tracking, orchestrates a blinding assault. The Twins enable Solineus to fend off attackers, but most Helmveliners perish, leaving five survivors. Seblêsu, across the river, prays to Sanzumôk and Hîmr before departing by boat, taunting Solineus with her victory and urging him to abandon pursuit, believing Hîmr’s awakening will reward her faith. Trapped by remaining Dark Waters below, Solineus devises a plan to lure them with a thrown stone, allowing crossbow volleys to wound several, forcing their retreat to tend injuries. Escaping via ropes, the group follows the stream to safety, reuniting with their horses. Exhausted but resolute, they plan to ride at dawn to evade pursuit. * [[ToP Chapter 78]] — Snow Fall * [[ToP Chapter 80]] — A Ruined People * [[Trail of Pyres]] - Main Chapter Listing [[Category:Solineus]] [[Category:Morik]] [[Category:Seblêsu]] [[Category:Erenfol]] [[Category:Barren Mirror River]] [[Category:Faldan Mention]] [[Category:ToP Chapters]]
