Solineus Mikjehemlut and his party—Inslok, Glimdrem, Rinold, and Trelelunin warriors—arrive at Choerkin Fost after fleeing Istinjoln, only to find no Luxun ship waiting and Taken swarming the castle and city. Inslok explains their retreat from Istinjoln, suggesting the demon Marukane’s purpose and power made victory uncertain, sparing them due to mutual risk. Solineus discusses Dareun’s ghost, puzzling Inslok, who retracts his earlier threat to displace the Silone, proposing an accord instead. As they await the Luxun ship Entiyu Emoño, signaled by arrows, Taken charge from the city, forcing a desperate race to the wavebreaker. Solineus, wielding the Twins, leads a chaotic battle, cutting through Taken with Trelelunin support, but their numbers overwhelm. Inslok’s glow surges, and Solineus rescues the wounded Mostelo, diving into the harbor to escape. Luxuns haul them aboard a rowboat, and all survive, though Solineus is battered and soaked. Aboard, Captain Intœño reveals they were delayed by Hidreng, Brotna, and Thonian warships heading east toward the Eleris and New Fost, hinting at a looming conflict.
