Meliu confronts the mystery of the Dulûmbolis, undead killer monkeys lurking beneath Green Mountain’s pyramid. After a month of fruitless digging, Rûîrn Bîdorik discovers a rubble-filled, mortar-sealed entrance, suggesting a blocked tunnel to the pyramid’s underbelly. Meliu, determined to stop the creatures responsible for twenty-seven disappearances, organizes a dig halfway along the tunnel’s presumed path, uncovering a stone roof. Leading Polus, three fire-wielding priests (Shinôu, Nilik, Gamber), and warriors into the tunnel, she illuminates it with Erginle’s Light, finding a maze of passages and a chamber filled with posed, decaying monkey corpses and human bones, revealing the Dulûmbolis’s breeding ground where the Unlife awakens their kin. Ambushed by swarming Dulûmbolis, Meliu uses Dark to confuse them and Fire to burn them, but the onslaught forces a desperate retreat. Separated in the chaos, Meliu flees into a narrowing tunnel, shedding her armor to swim through a flooded passage with Sol’s strength, evading pursuing monkeys. Emerging into a muddy shaft, she digs frantically toward the surface, fending off a Dulûmbolis with her dagger. Pulled free by Ivin, Meliu, covered in mud and nearly naked, faces him and Kinesee with relief and embarrassment, her survival a testament to her divine resilience as she reunites with allies amidst the ongoing threat of the undead monkeys.
