Eliles, determined to unmask the Face of Ulrikt, experiments with Jinbin to disrupt divine prayers, using the Sliver of Star to overpower Jinbin’s Light prayer and manipulate her own eye color with Spirit, though Life yields less success. Suspecting the Face’s shape-shifting relies on a complex blend of Air, Spirit, and Life—or possibly an artifact—she seeks advice from Fedenu, whom she believes is a dragon hiding among priests. Fedenu’s cryptic response pushes Eliles to devise a public trial to expose the Face, accusing Reinus to draw the elusive figure into the open. With Artus and Reinus, she plans to use Temeru as the prosecuting Ax, balancing priest and islander witnesses to maintain fairness while betting on the Face’s curiosity or arrogance to attend. Eliles aims to disrupt the Face’s prayer during the trial, revealing their true identity before the crowd. Despite risks of failure sparking conflict or Reinus facing execution, Eliles commits to protecting him, prepared to kill the Face if necessary, while planning weeks of practice to refine her strategy and gather more insights.
