= Chapter Fifteen: Out of the Valley = Kinesee, traveling to Molikîn with Meliu, Maro, Morik, and a mixed escort of Ravinrin, Choerkin, and Helmveliner warriors, grapples with her strained relationship with Meliu, confronting the priestess about her past with Ivin. Their tense exchange is cut short by a Kingdomer warning of Tek riders approaching from both front and rear in the Nînik Pass, a trap that threatens their small party. Meliu, wielding Light and Dark prayers, single-handedly confronts the rear attackers, using blinding Light and terror-inducing Dark to scatter and kill the Tek, but sustains a severe wound. Kinesee, urged by Morik to flee, rides up a steep slope, pursued by three Tek. Her path blocked by a washout, she leaps to a ledge, narrowly escaping, but is cornered by archers. Maro, Junt, and Kulor arrive to fight off the Tek, but Maro is fatally wounded, and Junt falls to his death. Meliu, driven by Januel’s maternal fury, uses Dark to drive the remaining Tek to madness, saving Kinesee but collapsing from her injury. As Morik’s reinforcements arrive, Kinesee, Meliu, and Kulor struggle to keep Maro alive, but despite herbal treatments, he succumbs to his wounds, dying under the midday sun. Kinesee, devastated, blames herself for Maro’s death, her resolve to reach Molikîn and secure Helmveline’s aid now tempered by grief and the harsh reality of the Tek ambush, while Meliu’s heroic intervention forges a complex bond between them amidst the tragedy. * [[WoG Chapter 14]] — Slaver's Pit * [[WoG Chapter 16]] — Breaking the Old Ways * [[Whispers of Ghosts]] — Main Chapter Listing [[Category:Kinesee]] [[Category:Meliu]] [[Category:Maro]] [[Category:Morik]] [[Category:Junt]] [[Category:Kulor]] [[Category:Ivin Mention]] [[Category:Nînik Pass]] [[Category:Molikîn Mention]] [[Category:Shuntiskâ Mention]] [[Category:Castle Choerkin Mention]] [[Category:WoG Chapters]]
